News from the Wolf Den - February 20th, 2014

Ten SAHS students will be competing in Dallas, Texas February 20 - 22 for the honor of representing the state of Texas at the DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) International Career Development Conference.  These ten young people all competed at the district level one month ago and ALL TEN earned a competitive slot at the state level!  This is a particularly amazing feat because only one of the ten is a returning competitor.  Senior Christina Arnold competed last year (and made it to State); the remaining nine are new to DECA and have represented our school and city incredibly well.

As the sponsor of the DECA program, I am proud to be associated with these young people.  They are a joy to be around and I look forward to both a hard-working and fun few days of competition.  The students and their events are:

Quintorria Bell, Freshman - Principles of Business Management & Administration

Amanda Garrett, Junior - Principles of Hospitality and Tourism

Brock Johnson, Sophomore and Jairyle Josue, Junior - Hospitality Services Team

Bruce Barlow, Senior and Tony Nguyen, Senior - Hospitality Services Team Decision Making

The following SAHS Student Council members attended an Advanced Leadership Workshop in Hunt, TX on February 14 - 16.  Some 300 STUCO students state-wide learned leadership and teamwork skills and received information about new projects for schools and communities of their respective areas of Texas.  Students attending were Brock Johnson, Emily Lester, Elizabeth Bernal, Christian Haynie, Jenny Nguyen, Javier Avila and Jairyle Josue.  Rod McLerran, STUCO Advisor, believes our students came home ready to use these experiences here at SAHS and in our community.
