News from the Wolf Den - March 26th, 2014

Congratulations, Donny Johnson!! "Mr. J," as he is known by many students and counterparts, has been chosen to receive the Gilbert I. "Buddy" Low Excellence in Education award for 2014. This is the fifth year of the award that honors 3 teachers chosen from 3 counties (San Augustine, Sabine and Angelina) for their excellence in teaching and dedication to their students and communities. A teacher is nominated from one of three campuses - Elementary, Middle School and High School - from each county. Their applications then go through a rigorous review process before the final three winners are chosen.

San Augustine schools have had at least one winner every year, starting with Ms. Mary Whittlesey (Middle School) and Ms. Willie Faye Garrett (Elementary School) in 2010. Ms. Falbert McCoy-Garrett won in 2011 from the Elementary School and Ms. Leasa Dunn won in 2012, representing the Middle School. Mr. Rod McLerran won for the High School last year.

This is a tremendous award and honor and we are all so proud of Donny. He is one of those teachers you can ask anything of (within reason, I guess!) and he will figure out a way to help. Congratulations, Donny - you are a blessing to those whose lives you have touched.
