Roberts, a senior, earned Class 2A honors. He was joined by Manvel quarterb ack D’Eriq King in 6A, Dallas Kimball quarterback Ryan Ross in 5A, Wichita Falls Hirschi running back Cedric Battle in 4A, Hallettsville quarterback Brent Motal in 3A and Bellaire Episcopal quarterback Preston Heard for private schools.
In its ninth consecutive year, Ford Motor Company’s Player of the Week program is again honoring six outstanding student-athletes each week of the 2014 regular season, recognizing one player in each of the state’s six athletic classifications. The winners are chosen for athletic achievements on the field, as well as for outstanding scholarship and community involvement.
Roberts turned in a huge night in a 60-8 win over Cushing, finishing with 506 total yards and seven touchdowns. He completed 15 of 23 passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns, rushed nine times for 114 yards and two scores and caught a pass for 21 yards and returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdow.
“Jamikel set the tone on both sides of the ball,” said San Augustine head coach Donald Hubbard. “Jamikel is the face of our school and our athletics department. “I’ve taken him to service clubs such as Lion’s and Rotary where he has spoken. He’s our team motivator and his presence on and off the field is evident.”
