San Augustine ISD – April Students of the Month
Elementary:
The Pre-K Student of the Month for April was Mattilyn Page. Her teacher, Mrs. Stripling, says, “Mattilyn is such an interesting Little Person! From the first day she arrived, she exhibited such amazing self-confidence. It was like she had been here all along. I was very impressed. She makes friends easily. She is very helpful and kind to her fellow, “Little People” whenever she sees the need. When a conflict arises during Center Time, Mattilyn will try to help resolve it. She is an eager learner, a good listener has very good manners and asks a lot of relevant questions. She can spell and print the 8 letters of her first name, she knows all the letters, upper case and lower case and their sounds, she can count to 100, knows all 10 colors, knows all 11 shapes and can say the pledges to the American Flag and Texas Flag, and knows the difference between the two. She also knows the names of the 1st and 16th Presidents and that the first President’s picture is on the quarter and 1 dollar bill; the 16th President’s picture is on the penny and the 5 dollar bill! The list of her accomplishments goes on and on. Mattilyn’s favorite “Center” is the “Lego Building Block” and her favorite color is blue.” Mattilyn is the daughter of Tonya and Jared Hagler and is in Mrs. Dee Stripling’s and Brenda Bolton’s Pre-K class and they are very proud of her.
The Kindergarten Student of the Month for April was Ashley Olalde-Velasquez. Ashley is an excellent student. She works very hard and follows the rules, and she always does what the teacher asks her to do. She listens well and does her work on her own. Ashley works very well with others and shows respect to her peers and all her teachers. Ashley sets an excellent example for the other students, and I am very honored to have her in my class says, Mrs. Heidi Pritchett. Ashley is the daughter of Elizabeth Velasquez-Olalde and Fermin Olalde.
The 1st grade Student of the Month for April was JaRyia Holman. JaRyia is an awesome student, she works very hard and makes excellent grades. She is well mannered and is a joy to have in class. When she is at home, she enjoys helping her mom with her little brothers. When she grows up she would like to be a teacher. JaRyia is the daughter of Ashley Holman and is in Mrs. Melba Pahal’s class.
The 2nd grade Student of the Month for April was CeDrianna Jones. CeDrianna is the daughter of Cedric and LaKeetra Jones. She is the oldest of four children. She has two sisters LaSyiah, and Ja’Khia and one brother Trey. Her favorite part of going to school recesses. In her spare time, CeDrianna enjoys lounging, taking naps, and eating. When she grows up, she would like to own her own salon and paint nails. CeDrianna is in Ms. Kimberly Linehan’s class.
The 3rd grade Student of the Month for April was TySydney Grover. TySydney is the granddaughter of Louise McCary. TySydney is a wonderful example of a model student. She is very well mannered, a hard worker, and is a friend to everyone. TySydney does well in all of her classes, but her best subject is Social Studies. She would like to be a teacher when she gets older. TySydney is in Ms. Jessica Fuller’s class.
The 4th grade Student of the Month for April was Blessed Garrett. Blessed is a wonderful and amazing student, a truth teller, and a poised young lady who is kind to everyone. Her favorite subject is reading, but she excels in writing as well. She was invited to join the GT students in a writing contest. She is very well rounded and makes A’s and B’s in mathematics as well. She enjoys seeing her Grandma and baby cousins. She is a family person! She also enjoys sports and track. Blessed would like for us to know that when she gets home she helps with her aunt’s kids. The lesson here is that you should help others, because one day you may need help. Blessed is the daughter of Demeko and Chudney Garrett and she is in Mrs. Maureen Carlton’s homeroom.
The 5th grade Student of the Month for April was Michael Hilton. Michael is the son of Michael and Amanda Hilton. He has two sisters, some cats, and a dog. He enjoys playing video games in his free time. He has been a lifelong student at San Augustine Elementary School since his first year in Pre-K. When Michael grows up he wants to be a police officer. He is in Mrs. Ashley Burks’ homeroom. Mrs. Burks, Mrs. Jennifer Morton, and Mrs. Kay Little are all very proud of him!

High School:
The 6th grade Student of the Month for April was Lluvia Hernandez. Lluvia is the daughter of Jose and Yajara Hernandez. Her favorite subject is Reading and her favorite teacher is Mr. Floyd because he is funny and explains everything well. Lluvia enjoys doing anything that will keep her active. She hopes to go to college to become a surgeon when she graduates from high school.
The 7th grade Student of the Month for April was JaToryia Barnes. JaToryia is the daughter of Jacqueline and Tory Barnes. Her favorite subject is Science and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Delafield because she is a fun and calm teacher. JaToryia loves to eat and sleep when she has time! She is involved in cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, and track. JaToryia plans to attend Stephen F. Austin and become a teacher just like her parents.
The 8th grade Student of the Month for April was Tyler Clardy. Tyler is the son of John Clardy. His favorite subject is English and his favorite teacher is Mr. Hampton because he is good at what he teaches. Tyler enjoys welding, hunting, and fishing. He is involved in middle school athletics. Tyler plans to go to a trade school when he completes high school but hasn’t decided on a career.
The 9th grade Student of the Month for April was Leslie Olalde. Leslie is the daughter of Leticia and Cesar Musico. Her favorite subject is Algebra and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Josue because she has been a big help this year. Leslie loves learning new things and also enjoys twirling. She is involved in band, twirling, Interact Club, Student Council, and Ladies League. Leslie plans to attend Texas Women’s University and study culinary arts and hopefully open up her own bakery.
The 10th grade Student of the Month for April was Zachary Garsee. Zachary is the son of James Garsee. His favorite subject is Biology and his favorite teacher is Mr. Schmieder because he teaches in a way that is very understandable. Zachary is interested in learning how to program and learning about filmmaking. He is involved in the SAHS Band. Zachary plans to become a software developer after he graduates from high school.
The 12th grade Student of the Month for April was Mikayla Slaydon. Mikayla is the daughter of Sharon Taylor. She enjoys all of her classes and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Russell because she always learns something in her class. Mikayla enjoys reading, listening to music, watching movies, playing the French horn, helping others, and sleeping. She is involved in Band, National Honor Society, Junior Chamber of Commerce, DECA, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Interact Club and UIL. Mikayla will attend Texas A&M University in the fall to obtain a degree in Biochemistry so that she can become a neonatal pediatrician.
